Doris J. Smith

Mrs. Doris J. Smith, age 93 of Fremont, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, April 17, 2018 at her home.  She was born on October 15, 1924 in Gladwin, Michigan to Charles & Libby (Campbell) VanHorn.  Doris enjoyed crocheting doilies, playing Uno and Aggravation, going to the Casino, her dogs Sadie & Oscar and cats.  She was also an avid reader, and a loving mother, grandmother, & great grandmother.  She was married to Gerald Burns and he passed away in 1969.  She was also married to Richard J. Smith for 30 years until he preceded her in death in 2006.  Doris was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Marie; by her brothers, Ora & Norm; and by her sisters:  Hazel, Opal, & Marian.  She is survived by her daughter, Debbie (Brian Bonstell) Blondeel of Fremont; 6 grandchildren:  Kaity Blondeel, Chad (Michelle) Blondeel, Jerry (Athena) Green, Angie Green, Tammy Borgeson, & Rick Gomez; 15 great grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and 1 sister, Florence Hildebrandt of Grand Haven.  The Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home with Chaplain Jai Mahtani officiating.  Visitation will also be at the funeral home from 9:30-10:30 AM on Friday, and interment will be in Newaygo Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to American Diabetes Association.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
