Geraldyne L. (Bowman) Frens

Geraldyne (Gerry)  Lenore Bowman Frens, age 100, died on Wed. April 11 at Green Acres Retirement Home in Fremont.  She was born to Gertrude (Dobben) Bowman and Jacob Bowman on October 15, 1917 in Fremont, MI. Gerry was married to Arthur J. Frens on July 26, 1940 and after 69 years of marriage he preceded her in death on March 24, 2009. Gerry was also preceded in death by her parents and her older sister Della ( Bowman) Lohman. She is survived by  her children: John A. and Janice Frens from Fremont, and Mary Frens and Richard String from Fremont; her grandchildren: Jeremy and Mary Ann Frens from Greensboro, NC, Jonathan and Lynrae Frens from Hudsonville, MI, Juliana and Andrew Thomas from Grand Rapids, MI,  Marik Frens-String and Sandra Dannhauser from Washington DC, and Joshua Frens-String and Abigail Weitzman from Austin, TX; her 8 great grandchildren: Nicolas Frens Ben Arthur Frens, Caleb Thomas, Brynn Thomas, Olivia Thomas, Madeline Frens, Jennette Frens and Francesca Weitzman- String. She is also survived by her younger sister, Clariss ( Bowman) VanDoornik and many special nieces and nephews.

 Gerry was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont where she was active in many women’s  prayer and bible study groups and taught Sunday School for many years. She also began a reading ministry for the residents at the Medical Care Facility. After her husband Arthur retired, they spent their winters in Sarasota, Florida, for 24 years, where they made many new friends and did volunteer work. Gerry is remembered by her family as being filled with warmth, hospitality, kindness and love.  Her Funeral Service will be held at Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont, MI, at 600 Apache DR, on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 11 am with Pastor Doug MacLeod officiating. Visitation with the family will take place immediately before the Service from 9:30am- 11:00am. Lunch will follow the Service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given through the Fremont Area Community Foundation to the Fremont Christian School and the Fremont Service Committee. Internment will be at Maple Grove Cemetary in Fremont.
