Ida (Idy) G. (DeLong) Davis

Ida G. (Idy) Davis, 97, died peacefully on April 4, 2017 at Fountain View Retirement Village in Fremont and entered the gates of heaven to be reunited with her many loved ones.

Idy was born on December 4, 1919 in Aetna, Michigan, the fourth child of eight to Dave and Hattie (VanderTuuk) DeLong.  On May 2, 1946 she married Earl Davis, who passed away in 1984 just one week before she retired.  They had 38 years together, living in White Cloud and spending weekends and vacations at their cottage in Bitely on Mill Lake.  

Idy began her education at the Aetna School through the 8th grade, then walked 7 miles to White Cloud High School every day and earned her high school diploma in 1937.  Idy worked part-time at the County Welfare Department before applying for and getting a secretarial position with the County Commissioner of Schools in White Cloud.  After three months of walking the seven miles to work, she had saved enough for a down payment on her first car, a 1936 Chevrolet.  Around 1947 the school districts were consolidated and the Intermediate School District was formed and Idy was promoted to Child Accountant.  Idy retired from that position in 1984.

Idy taught Sunday School for 50 years at the Aetna Calvary Church even before there was a "proper" church building.  She was a faithful, involved and life-time member there.  Idy was a very popular and well-loved Sunday School teacher.  She loved the times she spent with "her kids" and most Sundays had one or two who would sit with her during the morning worship service.  She always had a hug and a smile on her face for those children.  

Idy enjoyed sewing and made many of her own clothes as well as clothes for her siblings, nieces and nephews.  She was also known for the beautiful wedding cakes, birthday cakes and anniversary cakes she made for family and friends.  Her cakes were not only lovely to look at but also very delicious.

Idy will be missed by her many nieces and nephews who loved her and whom she deeply loved in return.  Besides her parents and her husband, Idy was pre-deceased by her seven siblings:  Harold, Edith, Milo (Manie), Emma, Ray (& Nora, also deceased), Roy, Dorothy (Dot) (& Bob Collins, also deceased).

Visitation will be on Saturday, April 8th from 6-8 PM at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home in Fremont.  The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, April 9th at 2:00 PM at the Aetna Calvary Church with Pastor Phil Jones officiating.  Interment will be in Lincoln Township Cemetery.  Suggested Memorial:  Aetna Calvary Church at 3944 W.
