I remember meeting Max for the first time, I was with my dad at the farm where the turnaround was behind Milan's house. There was a patch of green grass and there sat this Triumph mortorcycle with the shinniest chrome finders, it was just beautiful to a kid of about twelve. There was a problem with it, the front tie had the sides worn off, I had never seen anything like that. When I ask Max, he chuckled with his dry sense of humor, said it was from corning to hard on blacktop and it was a bugger to ride in the sand-Buzz

My parents, Joe and Glenna Butler were long time friends of Max and Doris. Life took them in different directions but through all the years, they stayed in touch, Wintered in Florida and laughed and carried on like the kids they were in high school. Loved you Max!

I will really miss watching Max and Sadie survey the farm all summer long in the golf cart. Max had the quickest wit of anyone I know. He leaves a big void in our little neighborhood.

Dear Doris,
Thinking and praying for you. I remember our days at Garfield School and walking down the gravel road every day with Max. He was a lot of fun. So thankful that we were able to have dinner together the last time I was in Newaygo.

We were so sorry to hear of Max's passing. We cannot think of Max without remembering when Max and Carl Mateer would give out the Lions Club Scholarships at the Honors Banquet several years in a row, and how funny they were! They both had such a dry sense of humor which added to the hilarity. They were a class act to be sure. Our sincere condolences to your families.
