Mr. Richard E. "Rich" Gill, age 98 years of Fremont, passed away on Monday morning, March 20, 2017 at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial in Fremont.  He was born on August 18, 1918 in West Branch, Michigan to Lloyd & Olive (Ramsdell) Gill.  He was the youngest of 5 boys:  Gerald, Claude, William, & Lynn, all of whom have preceded him in death.  He moved to Big Rapids, Michigan in 1925 and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1936.  He was on the baseball, basketball, and track teams, and received letters in all 3 sports.  Rich went into the US Air Force in March of 1943 and served overseas in Saipan, Guam, and the South Pacific Area.  He was also in the Air Force Honor Guard, and he played baseball on the Post Team in Robins Field, Georgia.  He was honorably discharged in April of 1946 with a rank of Tech Sergeant.  Rich worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a line technician in Fremont for 43 years until his retirement.  He was inducted into the Mecosta County Baseball Hall of Fame in 1959 along with his brothers Lynn & Claude.  Rich continued to play baseball & softball in Fremont.  He was an all around sportsman, which included hunting, fishing, and especially golfing.  He married Theresa King on June 29, 1940 in Big Rapids, Michigan and she survives him along with 2 sons:  Thomas (Barb) Gill, and Michael Gill; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, & 4 great great grandchildren.  The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at All Saints Catholic Church in Fremont (500 Iroquois Drive) with Fr. Sahaya Stanly as Celebrant.  Military Honors and a luncheon will immediately follow services at church, and interment will be made later Saturday afternoon at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  There will also be a time of visiting with the family at the church from 10-11 AM on Saturday.  Suggested Memorial:  Bellwether Harbor in Fremont.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
