Shirley Lee Ellis

Shirley Lee Ellis, age 81 years of Norton Shores, passed away on Friday evening, August 12, 2016 at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial in Fremont. She was born on August 11, 1935 to Vedra & Gladys (LaFountain) Gilchrist. Shirley managed the former Kaydon Credit Union in Muskegon for many years, and was later the lead consultant for the Michigan Credit Union League until her retirement in 1996. Shirley stayed very active in her retirement. She liked to travel, golf, and spend time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley married James Chester Ellis Jr., and he preceded her in death in 1985. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Elaine Longsdorf. She is survived by 2 children: James (Mary) Ellis of Englewood, Florida, Joni (Mike) Guerne of Fremont, Michigan; 3 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren; Brother Mike (Kathy) Gilchrist of Whitehall; and her highly loved friend of over 30 years Bob Schoolmeester of Norton Shores. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at Holton United Methodist Church (9530 Holton Duck Lake Road) with Pastor Jerry Selleck officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Visitation will also be at the church from 10-11 on Tuesday. Suggested Memorials: Alzheimer's Association or The Muskegon Rescue Mission.
