Margaret "Marge" Mary (Filipiak) Slater

Margaret “Marge” Slater, age 90 of Muskegon and formerly of Holton, passed away Saturday evening, April 6, 2024 at Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital.  She was born on May 10, 1933 in Alpena, Michigan to Phillip and Mary (Glacz) Filipiak.  Marge worked at Holton Elementary School Library, The Curtain Roll and Structural Concepts in Muskegon.  She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Brunswick.  Marge loved to tell her doctors and caregivers that she was raised as a hard working farm girl.  She enjoyed sewing, knitting and selling her sweatshirts at craft shows.  She also spent many hours doing word search and jigsaw puzzles.  She is survived by 5 children: Louis (Joni) Slater Jr., Leon (Nancy) Slater, Renee Rosema, William (Margot) Slater, Laura Slater; daughter-in-law, Lisa Slater; 16 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and by her sisters-in-law: Marjorie Filipiak, Marian Slater and Martha Saxton.  Marge was preceded in death by her son Mark Slater and son-in-law Dan Rosema.  Her brothers & their spouses: Phillip & Norma Filipiak, Jerome and Gloria Filipiak, and Raymond Filipiak. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass and burial will be held at a later date at St. Michael Catholic Church in Brunswick.  Marge’s family would like to thank the Senior Resources of West Michigan for the loving care given to her during this last year.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to Senior Resources of West Michigan, 560 Seminole Road, Norton Shores, Michigan  49444.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com
