Mr. Alfred W. Geerlings, age 94 of Fremont, passed away early Wednesday morning, June 12, 2019 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. He was born on May 13, 1925 in Fremont, Michigan to John & Nettie (Schuiteman) Geerlings. Al was a US Army Veteran of World War II, and he was an active life time member of Reeman Christian Reformed Church. He had owned & operated Reeman Hardware until 1967, and then was employed by Haveman Hardware in Fremont until 2001. On September 28, 1951 he married Gay Wiersema and she survives him along with 2 daughters: Mary (Dennis) Helmus of White Cloud, MI., Lynne Geerlings of Wyoming, MI.; 2 grandchildren: Andrea (Alex) Mathew, Aaron (Nicole) Helmus; 5 great grandchildren: Ezra, Axel, & Cyrus Mathew, Alecia & Austen Helmus; and by 1 sister, JoAnn Wyngarden of Fremont. Al was preceded in death by 4 sons: Roger, Gary, Kevin, & Brian Geerlings. A Memorial Service celebrating Al's life will be held at 6:00 PM on Monday evening, June 24, 2019 at Reeman Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Les VanDyke officiating. Food and a time to visit with the family will immediately follow the service at church. Interment will be in Reeman Cemetery.
