Beatrice "Bea" Mary (Ross) Deter

Mrs. Beatrice "Bea" Mary (Ross) Deter, age 83 years of Newaygo, passed away at home on Tuesday, January 30, 2018. She was born on September 15, 1934 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Gordon & Ann (Kroon) Ross. She graduated from South High School in Grand Rapids and went on to graduate from Western Michigan University with a B.B.A. She met Richard (Dick) Deter on a blind date white attending Western Michigan University, and they were married on August 3, 1957. She is survived by Richard, her husband of over 60 years; three children: Richard Scott (Wendy) Deter of Denton, Texas, Steven (Jennifer) Deter of Toccoa, Georgia, and Kathleen (Steven) Milthaler of White Cloud, Michigan; grandson Ross (Fiancée Olivia) Deter of Denton, Texas: brother, Mark (Judy) Ross of Spring Lake, and sister, Susan Kierstead of Grand Rapids. Bea was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Scott Ross.

Beatrice taught second grade in Comstock and Taylor, Michigan. Dick was frequently transferred and they lived in many locations, including: Kalamazoo & Dearborn, Michigan; Fort Wayne, Indiana; Louisville, Kentucky; St. Simons, Georgia; Hanover-Horton, Michigan; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; and back to Kentwood, Michigan. Upon retirement they moved to Portage, Michigan but spent 16 winters in McAllen, Texas. Bea & Dick had to return to Michigan as Bea had been fighting Alzheimer's for several years. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be no services. Memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Spectrum Health Hospice.
