Charles "Chuck" Witteveen Obituary

Mr. Charles "Chuck" E. Witteveen, age 83 of Grand Rapids & formerly of Fremont, went to be with his Lord & Savior on Monday afternoon, April 9, 2018 and he will be sorely missed by friends and family .  He was born on May 10, 1934 in Fremont, Michigan to William & Josie (DeBoer) Witteveen.  Chuck was a US Army Veteran.  In his early working days he had been a carpenter and worked with Farrand Deur.  At age 38, Chuck went back to school and graduated from GVSU with his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.  He then went on to work as an accountant for Gerber Products Company Risk Management Department.  After his retirement, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity.  Chuck was passionate about so many things, but top among them was music.  He was a soloist and sang at many weddings, baptisms, church services and funerals.  He also sang in barber shop quartets, musicals, with the Calvin College Alumni Choir, and he was a co-founder and singer for the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys.  Chuck was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont, and he attended LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids.  On September 20, 1956 he married Carol J. Lambers and she survives him.  He was a deeply devoted husband, father and grandfather and is also survived by 4 children:  Craig Witteveen of Big Rapids, Carla (Steve) Groenenboom of Grand Rapids, Curt Witteveen of Portland, Oregon, Caralee (Martin) Witteveen-Lane of Grand Rapids; 6 grandchildren:  Mitchell Charles (Annamarie) Groenenboom, Kirk Peter, Elena Rae, & Liesl Joy Groenenboom, Dylan Witteveen-Lane, & Anna Sophia Witteveen.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Myra Zwiep; by his brother-in-law, Howard (Donna) Lambers; and by many nieces & nephews.  Chuck was preceded in death by his brother Richard Witteveen, and by his sisters Marjorie Prince & Lois Jordan.  Visitation will be at Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont from 10-11 AM on Monday, April 16, 2018, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM on Monday with Pastors Doug MacLeod & Rich VerKaik officiating.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  There will also be a brief Celebration of Life & Song for Chuck at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 6:30 PM with Pastor Lee Smits officiating & the Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys singing.  This will be followed by refreshments and a time to visit with the family at the church until 8:00 PM.  Suggested Memorials:  Grand Rapids Choir of Men and Boys, or Beacon Hill Foundation.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
