Eda Marie (Bennett) Gordon

March 17, 1930 ~ January 10, 2018 (age 87) 87 Years Old


Eda Gordon, 87, of Muskegon went to be with her Lord on January 10, 2018. She was born March 17, 1930 to Lorna (Ruggles) and J.F. Bennett and grew up in Fremont.

Eda married William (Bill) Gordon on December 31, 1949. They raised their family first in Muskegon and then in Fruitport where Eda and Bill owned and operated Fruitport Bottled Gas.

She was an active member of the Fruitport Congregational Church until moving to the Newaygo area in 1992 when she joined the Fremont United Methodist Church. Over the years she willingly served the Lord in many capacities.

Eda's interests were many and included genealogy and family history; organizing and planning for high school class reunions; and serving as a member of the Commission on Aging for Newaygo County Board for many years before stepping down in 2012.

She is survived by her daughters Sherrie (Richard) Harris of Fremont and Susan (Phillip) Hancock of North Muskegon; sons David (Cam) Gordon of Spring Lake, Daniel (Deborah) Gordon of North Muskegon and Douglas (Brenda) Gordon of North Muskegon; twelve grandchildren: Anna (Jason) Leininger, Sara (Andrew) Moss, Richard (Michelle) Harris, Kevin (Tammy) Sylvester, Kelly Gordon, David Tarte, Adam Hancock, Katherine Frantz, John Carlson, Janice Carlson, Jacob Gordon, Kaitlyn Gordon and sixteen great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her brother James (Janis) Bennett of Fremont and many nieces and nephews. Eda was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years in 2012; sisters Jean Rought and Shirley Gordon; brother-in-law, Harvey Gordon and sisters-in-law, Sarah Hughes Hawley and Jean Fynewever.

A Celebration of Life will be held will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the Shack Country Inn.  Suggested Memorial:  Special Olympics Michigan Area 21.
