Elliott John (Squag) DeWitt, age 80 years of Fremont, passed away on Monday evening, May 14, 2018 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont. He was born on August 6, 1937 in Fremont, Michigan to Otto & Ellen (Jensen) DeWitt. When Elliott was younger he helped his dad on the family farm and loved the cows, pigs, and driving tractors. He was known as the Postmaster at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility, he loved to play bingo, and he was a Detroit Tigers fan. He is survived by his sister, Peggy Perigo (Robert Perigo deceased) of White Cloud; and by many nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; by his step-mother, Grace Gleason Maynard DeWitt; by his step-brothers: Darold Maynard, Bill Maynard & wife Carol Post Maynard; and by his step-sisters: Luella Maynard Tinkham & husband Donald Tinkham, Donna Jean Maynard McLouth Paprocki & husbands Ronald McLouth & Earl Paprocki, Leola (Odie) Maynard Hanes & husband Iral (Ike) Hanes. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, May 18, 2018 at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, with Rev. David Dickinson officiating. Visitation will also be at the funeral home from 12-1 PM on Friday. Interment will be in Jewell Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to the Newaygo Medical Care Facility Endowment Fund at the Fremont Area Community Foundation, for the wonderful care & friendships that he had there.
