Mrs. Elsie Marie Akershoek, age 75 of Newaygo, went to be with her Lord & Savior on Friday evening, January 4, 2019. She was born on October 24, 1943 in Stuart, Florida to William & Elizabeth (Jackson) Heyboer, Sr. Elsie had worked at Cedar Street School in Fremont, and she had been a substitute teacher and volunteer at Cornerstone Christian Academy in Fremont, the Newaygo ISD, and at the Vera Wilsie Library in Newaygo. She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Newaygo. She had also served as secretary for the Women's Missionary Union of West Michigan. On May 2, 1969 she married James A. Akershoek and he survives her along with 2 children: Glenda Akershoek, Kevin (Chrystal) Akershoek; 3 grandchildren: Cody, Ben, & Tessa; and 1 brother, William (Jackie) Heyboer, Jr. She was preceded in death by her parents. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Newaygo with Pastors Wes Smith, Chuck Steiner, & Don Long officiating. Visitation will be at the Kroeze- Wolffis Funeral Home from 5-7 PM on Tuesday. Interment will be in Garfield Township Cemetery. Suggested Memorial: Association of Baptist for World Evangelism (ABWE) for digital x-ray equipment at Memorial Christian Hospital in Bangladesh.
