Esther (Akershoek) Smith

Mrs. Esther Estella (Akershoek) Smith, age 88 years of Fremont, was surrounded by her family at her home when she went to be with her Lord & Savior on Friday morning, November 18, 2016.  She was born on August 4, 1928 in Byron Center, Michigan to Dirk & Christina (Beek) Akershoek.  Esther was a member of First Reformed Church in Fremont where she had been involved in the women's ministries, and where she taught Sunday School from many years.  She worked on the family farm alongside her husband of 68 years, Valmond Smith, and he survives her along with 6 children:  Marcia (Andrew) Rottier, Darla (Micheal) Moore, Douglas (Linda) Smith, David (Beverly) Smith, Wanda (David) Dickinson, & Amy Mangan all of Fremont; 25 grandchildren & 23 great grandchildren; many nieces & nephews, and several cousins.  She was preceded in death by 1 great granddaughter, and by her brother Donald Akershoek.  The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at First Reformed Church in Fremont (348 E. Main Street) with Pastor Ron Workman officiating.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Visitation will be at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home from 7-9 PM on Monday, and at the church from 10-11 AM on Tuesday.  Suggested Memorial:  Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse Ministry.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
