Esther L. (Kolk) Vandenberg

Esther L. Vandenberg, age 92 of Fremont, passed away peacefully & went to be with her Lord & Savior on Wednesday evening, September 26, 2018.  She was born on August 12, 1926 in Newaygo, Michigan the daughter of Albert & Mayme (Meeuwenberg) Kolk.  Esther graduated from Newaygo High School in 1943 as class Vice President.  She married Nathan Vandenberg on September 21, 1945, and that marriage ended in divorce in 1957.  She worked in the office at Gerber Products Company for over 13 years, then for the State of Michigan at Ferris College in Big Rapids, and then for the Department of Social Services in Lansing, Grand Rapids, & Muskegon.  She retired after 35 years of office work and moved to Fremont.  Esther was a lifetime member of church, Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont and the United Methodist Church.  She served on several committees which included the Administrative Board, Worship & Education, and 15 years as the Church Librarian.  She also belonged to Church Women's Groups since 1945, where she was Secretary and Treasurer for a few years, and she worked part time the last several years for the Times Indicator.  She also volunteered for NCCS and for Habitat for Humanity for 7 years.  Esther is survived by 3 children:  Allen (Ruth) Vandenberg of Fremont, Gary (Nancy) Vandenberg of Grand Rapids, and Bonnie Hoffman of Fremont; several grandchildren & great grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Win) Kolk of Fremont; one sister, Dorothy Rosenberg of White Cloud; a brother, Martin Kolk of Mesquite, Texas; and by several nieces & nephews.  The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 1, 2018 at Fremont United Methodist Church with Pastor Julie Fairchild & Pastor Wes Smith officiating.  Visitation will also be at the church from 10-11 AM on Monday.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Suggested Memorial:  The Bible League.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
