Mr. Fred W. "Pop" Strong, age 95 of Newaygo, formerly of Ludington & Twin Lake, passed away on Friday evening, August 9, 2019 at the Brook of Newaygo. He was born on August 18, 1923 in Cadillac, Michigan to Coley & Margaret (Dudley) Strong. Fred was a US Army Veteran of World War II. He had worked for the car ferry in Ludington, and then for Anderson Pattern in Muskegon Heights for 33 years until his retirement in 1986. Fred enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and painting. On June 21, 1946 he married Joyce C. Marshall and she preceded him in death on October 27, 2018. He was also preceded in death by 1 brother & 5 sisters. He is survived by 2 children: Carol (Buzz) Buzzell of Twin Lake, Denis (Kim) Strong of Newaygo; 4 grandchildren: Scott (Kelly) Buzzell, Brad (Kelly) Buzzell, Katrina (Jay) Luchies, Derek (Andrea) Strong; 11 great grandchildren & 1 great great grandson; and by many nieces & nephews. The family would like to give a special thank you to the loving & caring staff at the Brook of Newaygo. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home with Chaplain Jai Mahtani officiating. There will also be a time to visit with the family at the funeral home from 11-12 Noon on Saturday. Interment will be in Twin Lake Cemetery. The family would also like to thank Spectrum Health Hospice for their care, and in lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be given to Spectrum Health Hospice.
