Mr. John Lee Slater, age 67 of Holton, passed away on Monday evening, January 7, 2019 at Hackley Hospital in Muskegon. He was born on September 21, 1951 in Fremont, Michigan to John Edward & Delores (Klein) Slater. John had been a mechanic for DTE from 1989 until he retired in 2013, and he had owned & operated Slater's Transmissions. He also had a passion for the outdoors in all seasons. On July 29, 1978 John married Gerri Blondeel and she survives him along with 3 children: John Robert (Erin) Slater, Lee (Sarah) Slater, Jennifer (Tim) Landino; 7 grandchildren: Nevin, Lilly, Alyssa, John Lawrence (JJ), Nicklas, Christopher, Bobby; 2 brothers: Don Slater, Ron (Sylvia) Slater; and 3 sisters: Nancy (Joe) Rupar, Jane (Tom) Kempf, Mary (Victor) Raczok. John was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at St. Michael Catholic Church in Brunswick with Fr. Darrel C. Kempf as Celebrant. There will be a time of visiting with the family at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home from 5-8 PM on Friday, and at the church from 10-11 AM on Saturday.
