Mr. Joseph Lee Brooks, age 88 of Holton, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 13, 2019 at Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial in Fremont. He was born on September 1, 1930 in Waterloo, Indiana to Cleon & Geneva (Wantz) Brooks. Joe was a US Navy Veteran, and he had worked at Teledyne Continental Motors for many years until his retirement. He had been a part of the black powder shooting community, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Joe had also volunteered at Bay Cliff Camp with his cousin Terry Wantz. He was preceded in death by his long time companion, Lucille Johnson, on August 13, 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents, by his step-mother Millie Brooks, and by his step-brother Larry Strong. Joe is survived by 4 children: Judy Pykonen of Fremont, Pamela Jo (Tolli) Grapis of Stevensville, MI., Paula (Greg) Gordon of St. Joseph, MI., Dean (significant other Mary Ann May) Brooks of Montcalm County, MI.; 7 grandchildren & 5 great grandchildren; Lucille's children & grandchildren; 1 brother, Jerry Brooks; 2 step-brothers: Roger (Barb) Strong, Richard (Wendy) Strong; 1 step-sister, Pam Fassett; and by his special friends, Dave & Sara Redmon & their children. According to Joe's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 17, 2019 at Fremont Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with his son-in-law, Pastor Greg Gordon, officiating. There will also be a time of visiting with the family at the church from 1-2 PM on Saturday. Suggested Memorial: The Terry Wantz Historical Research Center.
