Larry Austin Obituary

Our sweet and gentle Dad, Grandpa, and ‘GGpa’, Larry L Austin, age 84, left this earthly life peacefully and quietly on June 27th 2018. He was born March 20, 1934 to Robert I and Zelma Milner Austin in Fremont where he resided his entire life. He attended Fremont schools and graduated from Fremont High. Larry married his high school sweetheart, Thelma Teusink, in 1954 and they were together for 57 years before her passing in 2011.

Larry worked in the factory at Gerber’s for 16 years and at Luchie Builders for 17 years and then at Fremont Public Schools for 10 years.  After their retirement, Larry and Thelma enjoyed spending a few winters in Arizona and also enjoyed spending time watching their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their various activities.

Larry is survived by 5 children: Linda and Andy Kole of Cedar Springs, Doug of Fremont, Jayne and Paul Barnes of Queen Creek Arizona, Bob and Lorry of White Cloud, and Mark of Carol Stream Illinois. Two of his children, Diane and Dean, preceded him in death.

Larry is also survived by his 11 grandchildren: Larry, Brian and Steven Kole; Zach Austin; Kayci (Ayers), Kari (Taylor), Kendyl (Hawkins), Bryan, Austin, and Carson Barnes; and Brandon Austin. In addition, he is survived by his 25 great-grandchildren, whom he adored, and talked about often; as well as a sister-in-law, Evelyn Derks, a brother-in-law, Marvin (Dorothy) Teusink, and several nieces and nephews.

Other family members who preceded him in death were his sister, Arlene Tibbe, and her husband, Arthur; brother-in-law, Vernon Derks; a sister-in-law, Wilma Teusink, and 3 half-brothers: Clyde, Bobby, and Richard Austin, and another sister, Helen.

A visitation with the family will be held on Friday July 13th from 5-7:00 pm at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home at 637 E Main Street in Fremont. The funeral service will also be at the funeral home on Saturday, July 14th, at 11:00 am, with the interment at Maple Grove Cemetery to follow.

Our Dad loved life and was a good provider for his family. He loved without reservation his wife, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  We will miss him!

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution can be made in Larry's name to Spectrum Hospice.

**The family would like to thank all the caregivers and friends at the Green Acres Memory Care Center in Cedar Springs for their excellent care and compassion shown to our Dad during his residency there. **
