Mari Ann Deuling Obituary

Mari Ann (Rupar) Deuling of Holton passed away on September 8, 2019, after a short illness. She was born on February 16, 1940 to Anton and Gertrude (Shriver) Rupar and graduated from Fremont High School in 1957.   She married Norman Deuling on July 16, 1960, and she worked at Shaw Walker until her firstborn (Jeff) was born. She and Norm owned Marathon Bulk Storage for several years.  Mari Ann later went to college and worked for many years at Spectrum Gerber and Hackley Hospital in Patient Registration and Radiology Registration. After their retirement, Norm and Mari Ann volunteered for six years at Whitehall’s Shoreline Elementary School and became Grandma and Grandpa to hundreds of kindergarteners. She and Norm were married for 58-1/2 years and truly enjoyed each other’s company.  They did everything together. She enjoyed spending time with family and her grandchildren were cherished.  She and Norm loved to travel as well as periodic casino runs.  She also enjoyed crocheting and painting ceramics, and she could never resist a game of cards or Chinese checkers with her sisters and enjoyed their time together.

Mari Ann leaves behind three children, Jeff and Judy (Schultz) Deuling of Montague, Amy and Roger Dore of Montague and Todd and Michelle (Scarbrough) Deuling of Shelby.  Mari Ann loved spending time with her 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren and families:  Kurt (Zvezda) Deuling, Kyle (Abby) Deuling, Leah Deuling (Charles), Kelsey (Zac) Carlson, Ashley Dore, Samantha (Mike) Haun, Rianne (Kurtis) Zimmerman and Vanessa (Austin) Ankner.

She also leaves behind sisters Toni Rupar, Peggy (Larry) Bisson, Pat (Tom) Helferich, brother-in-law Bob Church and sister-in-law Geraldine Deuling

Mari Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Norm, her sister Eva Church, brothers-in-laws Charles (Chuck) Derby, Benard and Evelyn Deuling, Carl Deuling, Fred Deuling and sister-in-law Marian and Fred Hayes.

The family would also like to thank Spectrum Health Hospice for their care and compassion through this journey.
