Mrs. Mary Lou Hopkins, age 89 of Fremont, went to be with her Lord & Savior on Friday morning, September 13, 2019 from the Newaygo County Compassion Home in White Cloud. She was born on December 8, 1929 in Muskegon, Michigan to Willis & Isabelle (LaVance) Nutt. Mary Lou loved caring for people, and she had been a Nurses Aid for many years. She had also worked for several years in the deli/bakery at Bill's Shop-N-Save in Fremont. Mary Lou was a member of the Holton United Methodist Church, and she enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, and spending time with her family. On May 26, 1989 she married Henry "Hank" Hopkins and he preceded her in death on November 16, 2016. She was also preceded in death by her sister Karen Long, and by her son-in-law Gerald "Jerry" Kandler. Survivors include her children: Kathy (Doug) Westbrook, Barb Nelson, Jan (Gary) Kartes, David (Debbie) Witteveen; 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, & 7 great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her step-daughter, Glenna (John E.) Koewers; 2 step-grandsons & 1 step-great grandson; sister, Carol (Busch) Reno; and brother, Duane "Butch" Yager; and by many nieces & nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 Noon on Monday, September 16, 2019 at the Holton United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Stoll officiating. There will be a time of visiting with the family at the church from 10-12 Noon on Monday. The family would like to thank Dr Ceton and Spectrum Health Staff along with The Compassion Home in White Cloud and the Director and Staff for all of their care and concern towards mom and the family.
