Olive McLean Obituary

Olive Louise McLean, 85, of Bridgeton, went home to be with her Heavenly Father on Thursday, June 14, 2018, while at her home, surrounded by the love and care of her family.

Olive was born Aug. 30, 1932, at her grandparent’s home in Bridgeton, MI, to Robert and Iva (Salisbury) Scott and grew up in the Newaygo County area. She finished the eighth grade at Fremont and was living with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Herbert Scott, at the time of her marriage to the love of her life, LeRoy Raymond McLean, on Nov. 19, 1949.

Olive was a hard worker all of her life, and whatever her hand found to do she did with all her might; doing such things as selling different products from her home, picking cherries (with a play pen under the trees!), various full time jobs, and "retiring" twice!  She did all this with a "never quit" attitude.

Olive was active in her community, helping with the local one room school "back in the day" and with  community social events. She was also a Girl Scout Leader. She had a big heart and her home was always open. She was known affectionately as "Ollie" by several people whom she took into her family for awhile. Olive kept herself centered in her faith and her love for the Lord Jesus and prayed for many throughout the years. She was active in her local church wherever she lived. Olive and LeRoy helped start a new congregation in Muskegon, MI, where they lived for a time.  Perhaps her favorite way to serve was through her love of cooking.  Many of her summer "vacations" were spent taking loads of kids to camp and then cooking for them all!  She also cooked dinners for her local church's weekly prayer group. Olive always had on a pot of coffee and the family Sunday dinner often had guests. Her home was always open and loving, and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Olive is survived by her four daughters Anna (LaVern) Daniels of Shakopee, MN; Sheryl (Dale) Sluiter of Allegan, MI; Dorothy (Rich) Green of Bridgeton, MI; and Sarah (Will) Pardee of Bridgeton, MI.;  thirteen grandchildren: Ronald McLean, Jr., Leon McLean, Todd (Dana) McLean, Misty Gillespie (Ryan Romine), Billy Daniels, Max Daniels, Joshua Daniels, George (Jen) Snyder, Sheryl (Toby) Hammond, William Kimble, Michael (Sarah) Christenson,  Aaron (Heather) Christenson, and Rachael (Mark) Baker; seventeen great grandchildren: Brittany (Brian) Thompson, Joseph McLean, Tylor Gillespie, Logan Romine, Paetyn Havel-Daniels, Elexius Bogdan, David Gibson, Amy May, William Kimble, Tiffany Kimble, Silvia Christenson, Abigail Christenson, Esther Christenson, Ozzy Christenson, Maisy Baker, Kaitlin Baker, and Cody Baker; five great-great grandchildren: Conner Thompson, Sophie Thompson, Isabella Thompson, George Bogdan, and Gene Wiseman; one brother, Chet (Norma Jean) Scott; two sisters, Betty (Leonard) Hughey and Linda (Louie) Nicholes, others who called her "mom," Sharon Robinson, Chris & Tina May, Amber Wiseman, and many other friends and family.

Olive was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy McLean,  son Ronald McLean, grandson Nathaniel Lee Christenson, great-great granddaughter Olive Grace Christenson, brother Bob Scott, and sister-in-law Ann Scott.
