Thomas Korenstra, age 65, died unexpectedly at his home in Bridgeton on Christmas Eve. Authorities say that death was instant.
Tom leaves behind his wife Carol Haines Korenstra. The couple was married for 42 years. The couple’s children include Kathryn (Vikram) Chib, Jane (Luke) Metz, and Nick (Chelsea) Korenstra. Grandchildren are Kiran and Ravi Chib and Calen and Zeke Metz. Tom’s siblings are Judy (Bruce) Jordan and Bill (Jill) Korenstra. Another sister, Leigh (Paul) Sternburgh, died in 2014. Tom’s parents, Nick and Betty Korenstra, died in 2006 and 2014, respectively.
Tom was born on May 25, 1954 in Goshen, Indiana. The family moved to Fremont in 1962, when Nick and Betty bought Shop ‘N’ Save grocery store. Tom attended Fremont Christian School in Fremont and Western Michigan Christian High School in Muskegon, from which he graduated in 1972. He then attended Muskegon Community College and Michigan State University.
Tom was employed as a meat cutter for many years, worked with his brother in the computer industry, finally becoming a Registered Investment Adviser in 2003. Tom was an avid hunter, and had hunted this past fall in Colorado, the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and Kansas. He loved his family & will be greatly missed.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont with Scott Grunow officiating.
