Mr. Timothy Max Purcell, age 73 of Newaygo, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, January 1, 2019 at his home. He was born on September 26, 1945 in Fremont, Michigan to Max & Doris (Strohpaul) Purcell. Tim was a member of Newaygo Congregational United Church of Christ, where he had served on a variety of church offices. He was a lifelong farmer, and he had been a Newaygo County Commissioner for 20 plus years during which time he served on several Newaygo County Boards including Commission on Aging, The Newaygo Medical Care Facility, and Newaygo County Board of Mental Health. Tim was also a licensed massage therapist, a member of the Newaygo Lions Club, and he loved little kids, animals, & gardening. He is survived by his wife, Sandra "Dewey" Purcell; 2 children: John (Rachel) Purcell of Phoenix, Arizona, Angela (Greg) Pummel of Newaygo; 2 grandchildren: Ryan (Samantha) Huismann, Andrew (fiancee Allison Morgan) Huismann; 2 great grandchildren: Lexi Grace Huismann & Max Kenneth Huismann; 2 step-children: John (Sandra) Gill of Grand Rapids, Deb (Tim) Riemersma of Kentwood; 1 step-granddaughter, Cass (Brandon) Salas; 1 step-great granddaughter, Lyra Salas; and 1 sister, Jane Ellen (Wayne "Newt") Porter of Fremont. Tim was preceded in death by his parents; and by his former wife, the mother of his children, Linda Purcell. According to his wishes cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Newaygo Congregational United Church of Christ (432 Quarterline) with Pastor Jonathan Riedel officiating. There will be a time of visiting with the family at the church from 10-11 AM on Saturday. Interment will be at Garfield Township Cemetery.
