Candy Diane VanDusen, age 65 of Newaygo, went to be with her Lord and Savior late Monday evening, March 30, 2026. She was born on November 23, 1960 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Donald & Barbara (Flint) Liefbroer. Candy had been employed by Mitco Inc. in Grand Rapids for 33 years until her retirement in 2016. After her retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her husband Tom on Drummond Island. She was a member of First Reformed Church in Fremont where she sang on the Praise Team and worked in the tech booth and kitchen. Candy enjoyed fishing, going out to eat, gardening, and caring for others. She was an excellent cook and excelled at hosting family gatherings. She also loved her rescue pups. On September 10, 2001 she married Tom VanDusen and he survives her along with 3 children: Steven VanDusen, Karen (Justin) McDowell, Scott (Kristen) VanDusen; 6 grandchildren: Claire, Clayton, & Cloe McDowell, Paitin, Braylee, & Harper VanDusen; 2 sisters, Linda (Jerry) Hicks and Brenda Key; brother-in-law, Andrew Lake; and by several nieces & nephews. Candy was preceded in death by her parents Donald & Barbara Liefbroer, and by her sister Sally Lake. According to her wishes cremation has taken place, and there will be a time of visiting with the family at First Reformed Church in Fremont from 11-12 Noon on Thursday, April 16, 2026. A Celebration of Candy’s Life will follow at 12 Noon with Pastor Luke Stroven officiating, and a luncheon will follow the service at church.
