Carol Witteveen Obituary

Carol Witteveen passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, at the age of 89.  She was a devoted Christian who lived out her faith with integrity and honesty as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Carol was born on Christmas Day, 1934, in Graafschap, Michigan. She was very proud of her younger brother, Paul Lambers, who received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his bravery in leading his platoon on a mission in Vietnam. She missed him greatly for the rest of her life. When she met Chuck Witteveen, he immediately fell in love with her shy, yet mischievous smile.  They were married on September 20, 1956, and moved to Fremont, Michigan. It was there that Chuck built their country home, and they raised four children. They were very active in their community and church, Second CRC of Fremont.  She was always sewing clothing for her family and canning food from the garden.  She also read voraciously, loved nature and a good joke, as well as a big bowl of ice cream.  When her kids were grown, she delved into community work. She served as a deacon in her church and was instrumental in their Car Ministry in Newaygo County.  This ministry fixes up cars for people that need them to get to their jobs.  She also drove pregnant women without transportation to their doctor visits for the Newaygo County Health Department.  She was a great listener and people were drawn to her. Carol spent many years enjoying her grandchildren, having them for sleepovers, reading to them and snuggling with them. As they grew, she and Gramps were at every concert, play and game. Although she had dementia later in life, her joyful spirit remained intact, as well as her quick wit and laughter. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Charles Witteveen; her parents, Herman and Jeanette (Bussies) Lambers; two brothers, Paul and Howard Lambers; her sister Myra Zwiep; and her in-laws, Lois Jordan, Marge Prince, Rich Witteveen, and Ted Zwiep. She will be lovingly missed and remembered by her kids and grandkids: Craig Witteveen, Carla (Steve) Groenenboom, Curt Witteveen, Caralee (Martin) Witteveen-Lane; 6 grandchildren, Mitch (Annamarie), Kirk (Kelly), Elena and Liesl Groenenboom, Dylan Lane, and Ana Witteveen; and 2 great-grandchildren,  Penelope and Charlie.  The family is at peace knowing that Carol and Chuck are together again in their eternal home.  The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont with Pastor Fred Bultman officiating.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Visitation will also be at the church from 10-11 AM on Monday.  Memorial contributions can be made to Second CRC of Fremont Car Ministry at Home | Second Christian Reformed Church (myvanco.com), or to Beacon Hill Foundation.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
