Clifford Cleo Makin, age 77 of Newaygo, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday evening, February 26, 2024. He was born on March 20, 1946 in Hart, Michigan to Clifford James & Vivian “Roberta” Cleo Lake. Cliff was a US Marine Veteran of the Vietnam Era Walking Dead Unit, and he was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of the Holton American Legion Post #397, White Cloud Eagles #4170, and Reeman Christian Reformed Church. Cliff had been a store director for Plumb’s for 32 years, and he had owned & operated Spring Cleaning for 20 years. Harness horse racing and horses were his passion. On December 30, 1967 he married Beverly Deur and she survives him along with 2 children: Christopher (Kimberly) Makin, Tracey (Shane) Crowley; 5 grandchildren: Brittni (Byron) Hobbs, Calvin & Cora Crowley, Lillie & Emily Makin, 3 great-grandchildren: Evelynn, Elaynah, & Lucille Hobbs. Cliff is also survived by his brother Marshall Makin, and he was preceded in death by his sisters Leona Hinton & Rita Swanson. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Reeman Christian Reformed Church with Pastors Les VanDyke & Nate Kooistra officiating. Military Honors provided by the US Marines and the Holton American Legion Post will take place at the church immediately following the service. There will also be a time of visiting with the family, prior to the service at church, from 1-2 PM on Friday. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
