David Wayne DeKryger, age 86 of Fremont, is safe in the arms of Jesus and went to his Heavenly Home on Friday, November 28, 2025. He was born on July 26, 1939 in Muskegon, Michigan to Glen and Matilda (Derks) DeKryger. Dave had been employed by Consumers Power Company for 18 ½ years where he had done multiple jobs, and he retired from Fremont Public Schools where he had been employed for 18 ½ years as a custodian. He was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont for most of his life, where he had been actively involved as an Elder, Deacon, custodian, Sunday School Teacher, and Cadet Counselor. Dave was also a handyman who enjoyed tinkering, and he could fix anything. On November 6, 1959 he married Sharon Marie Lambers and she survives him along with 4 sons: Scott (Sheila) DeKryger of Grand Rapids, Phil (Dawn) DeKryger of Fremont, Dean (Cheryl) DeKryger of Cadillac, Eric (Tara) DeKryger of Allendale; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and 1 on the way. He is also survived by his sisters & brother: Joann (John) Abernathy, Calvin (Janet) DeKryger, Celia DeKryger, Susan (Lee) Mys; brother-in-law, Paul DeYoung; and by many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his sister, Julie DeYoung; brother-in-law, Larry Lambers; and by his sister-in-law & her husband, Barbara & Don Smith. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 6, 2025 at First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont with Pastor Drew Sweetman officiating. There will also be a time of visiting with the family at the church from 10-11 AM on Saturday. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in the spring of 2026 for immediate family.
