Dean W. Moon, age 88 of Fremont, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday afternoon, June 16, 2025, from the Newaygo County Compassion Home in Fremont.
He was born on November 20, 1936, in St. Johns, Michigan, to Robert and Dorothy (Krepps) Moon. Dean dedicated 35 years of service to the Clinton County Road Commission, retiring as superintendent in 1991. During that time, he also served his community as Chief of Police in Maple Rapids, Michigan.
On October 7, 1956, Dean married the love of his life, Mary Lou Schaefer, who survives him. He is also survived by his three children and ten grandchildren:
● Jeff (Shelly) Moon of Fremont and children Ashley (Jordan) Gerth, Taylor (Adam) Hawes, Carter, Cody, and Sydney Moon;
● Steve (Terri) Moon of Fremont and children Katie (Ethan) Looy and Kelse (Adam) Forbes;
● Jennifer (Dave) Gavette of Middleville and children Caleb, Cameron, and Tyler Gavette.
He also leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren; his brother Gary (Mary) Moon of California; and sister-in-law Judy Moon of Ithaca, MI. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Moon, and his sister, Pat Draper.
A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and proud great-grandfather, Dean’s life was defined by his unwavering faith, generous spirit, and joyful heart. Dean was the one everyone could count on - the family “Mr. Fix-it,” always ready with a tool in hand and a clever solution. Whether it was a leaky faucet or a broken toy, he made things whole again, not just with his hands, but with his love and steady presence.
He was a God-fearing man who lived his faith through quiet strength, daily kindness, and deep integrity. Dean had a gift for humor - his jokes, laughter, and gentle teasing will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was always there—for the big milestones and the everyday moments—offering support, encouragement, and love. His legacy of faith, family, and laughter will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know him.
Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find peace in knowing that Dean is now in the arms of his Savior.
Visitation will take place on Friday, June 20, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Fremont beginning at 11:00 A.M., with the Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 P.M. Interment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
