On October 20, 2023 God decided to call to Heaven Donald R. Henry, age 86 of Big Blue Lake, one of the best mechanics and handyman there ever was. He was born on February 8, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan to William & Marguerite (Cavender) Henry. Don could fix or build anything. He worked for Monettes Garage in Holton, and then for the US Postal Service as a mechanic and fleet manager until his retirement in 1992. Don also volunteered his time at Holton High School as a scoreboard/timekeeper for over 30 years. He was also a volunteer fireman for Blue Lake Township Fire Department, where he held many positions including Fire Chief. He was a member of Holton United Methodist Church, and he enjoyed camping, NASCAR, the Detroit Red Wings, and RC cars, planes, & boats. Don married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann Homan, on September 1, 1956 and she preceded him in death on February 26, 2018. He was also preceded in death by several brothers & sisters. His pride was in his family, and he is survived by 2 children: Terry (Sara) Henry of Twin Lake, Kim (Scott) Schlee of Holton; 5 grandchildren: Matthew Henry, Jennifer (Dave) LaChapelle, Heather (Daniel) Rodriguez) Murphey, Kevin (Amanda) Schlee, Daniel (Jessica) Schlee; 7 great-grandchildren: Calvin, Ashtyn, Brittany, & Zachary Schlee, Olivia & Jackson LaChapelle, Reya Rodriguez; and by several nieces & nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at Holton United Methodist Church with Pastor Matt Stoll officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood-Holton Cemetery. Visitation will also be at the church from 5-8 PM on Wednesday. Suggested Memorials: Holton United Methodist Church Praise Team or Youth Group.
