Donald James Voogd, age 69 of Newaygo, completed his journey on earth and entered into eternal glory on Christmas Day, December 25, 2021. He was born on February 8, 1952 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Don provided for his family through leadership, hard work, and dedication in his career at Pak Sak Industries in Sparta, until his 2019 retirement from Mark-Maker Company in Grand Rapids. Don was a man of few words but many skills. He is described by his employer, family, and friends as a jack of all trades, and was frequently called upon for advice in many areas. In fact, he was often referred to as ‘Doc’. Don willingly used his array of skills in service to the Lord. His kind heart and welcoming spirit made him a beloved leader in his church community, family and, his everyday life. He was a Detroit Lions fan, enjoyed traveling, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. On August 17, 1990 he married Vicky Meeuwenberg and she survives him along with 7 children: Dan Longnecker of Flint, Jennifer (Chuck) Hacht of Caledonia, Ross (Charity) Voogd of Middleville, Alex (Cassandra) Voogd of Middleville, Kiana Longnecker of Greenville, Crystal (Benjamin) Hardy of Georgia, Katie (Jason) Ebert of Colorado; 16 grandchildren; 1 brother, Ronald (Pati) Voogd of Allendale; 2 sisters: Lorie Bieschke of Belding, Karen Voogd of Grand Rapids; many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces & nephews; and many special friends that he loved like family. Don was welcomed into Heaven by his parents, Henry & Barbara (Merren) Voogd, and by 3 grandchildren. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be a time of visiting with the family from 6-7 PM on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont. A Memorial Service will follow directly at 7:00 PM with Pastor Ben Oliveira officiating. Light refreshments and a time to further visit with the family will take place immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall. Wearing a mask is strongly encouraged by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to World Renew – Disaster Response Service. Donation envelopes will be available at the service.
