Douglas Seator, Jr. Obituary

Douglas Sinclair Seator Jr, 85, passed away in his sleep at the home he loved in Sunriver, Oregon, on September 30, 2025.  He remained active in his community and engaged in his favorite pursuits until the time of his death.

Doug was born in Evanston, Illinois, the first child of Douglas and Lucille Seator, and grew up on the outskirts of Chicago, where as a teenager he enjoyed a part time job on the grounds crew at Northwestern University.  After graduating from Evanston Township High School, Doug attended Ripon College in Wisconsin.  During the summers, he worked through the Evanston YMCA as a counselor and marina director at Camp Echo near Fremont, MI, where he met his future wife Sue, a fellow counselor.  He went on to earn his MBA at Indiana University and joined the Eastman Kodak Company in the marketing field.  Doug represented Kodak in multiple US locations, including New York City during the 1964-65 World’s Fair; St Louis, MO; and Rochester, NY, and was then transferred by Kodak overseas where he worked and raised a family for 18 years in several different countries.  After retiring, Doug and Sue settled in Oregon in 1998.

While living in Sunriver, Doug was active in a range of community service roles, including with the Service District and Citizen Patrol, as well as in his church.  He spent many happy hours working in his yard and remained an adventurous traveler.  Doug was also a lifelong lover of sports, including as a player of rugby while in university as well as of tennis, basketball, and softball as an adult.  He was a fan of football, baseball, basketball, and track, especially at the collegiate level, rooting on his IU Hoosiers, Chicago Cubs, GU Zags, and U of O Ducks each season.  For many years, he served as a USATF lane judge for track meets at Hayward Field.

Doug was preceded in death by his sister Lesley Bennett, his wife Susan Stroven Seator, and his son Scott.  He is survived by his daughter Anne.
