Gary James Nelsen

Gary James Nelsen, age 82 of Fremont, passed away on Thursday morning, March 13, 2025 at his home.  He was born on March 24, 1942 in Fremont, Michigan to James & Doris (Jackson) Nelsen.  Gary had been employed as a diesel mechanic at A & C Carriers in Muskegon for 27 years, and at Michigan Produce Haulers in Fremont for 12 years until his retirement in 2004.  He was a member of the Teamsters Local 406, and he had been a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge #1555.  Gary liked muscle cars and going to car shows, motorcycles, hunting, snowmobiling, and golfing.  On February 2, 1980 he married Shirley Chrystler and she survives him along with 5 children:  Justin (Amber) Nelsen, Amanda Nelsen, Craig (Jill) Nelsen, Cheri (Paul) Nelsen-Walter, Christie (Kimmy) Nelsen; 8 grandchildren & several great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by his brother, Chris (Shelly) Nelsen; sisters-in-law & brothers-in-law:  Carole Nelsen, Paul Chrystler, Nancy Chrystler, Larry Chrystler, Ronald Chrystler, Lori Chrystler; and by many nieces & nephews.  Gary was preceded in death by his parents, James & Doris Nelsen; brother, Keith Nelsen; father-in-law & mother-in-law, Harold & Thelma Chrystler; and by his brothers-in-law & sister-in-law:  Kenneth Chrystler, Donald Chrystler, Carol Halverson & her husband Al, and Wayne Chrystler.  The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at Reeman Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Les VanDyke officiating.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Visitation will be at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home from 6-8 PM on Monday, March 17, 2025.  Suggested Memorial:  The American Cancer Society.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
