Gary L. VanKoevering, age 76 of Fremont, passed away unexpectedly on Monday morning, March 16, 2026 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He was born on October 23, 1949 in Fremont, Michigan to Erwin & Relvia (Baker) VanKoevering. Gary had been an electrician and he was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 275 until his retirement in 2012. He was a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge #1555 where he was the current President, and the White Cloud Eagles #4170. Gary enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and golfing. On February 20, 1988 he married Marian K. Staley and she survives him along with 3 daughters: Deb (John) Rozanski of Fremont, Monica Weaver of Grand Rapids, Melisa (Chris) Schut of Byron Center; 4 grandchildren: Ashlee (Ted) Watson, Ryan Stroven, Trytin (Kathleen) Siemasz, Kaitlyn (Justin) VanderWoude; 6 great grandchildren & 1 on the way: Jaxton Stroven, Cora Stroven, Edison Watson, Tate Stroven, Wells VanderWoude, Lincoln Watson, & baby Siemasz; 1 sister, Victoria Erhardt; 2 sisters-in-law: Donna (Dave) Heeres, Martha (Darryl) Weekley; nephews & nieces: Dan Erhardt, Al Erhardt, Scott (Kristen) Heeres, Carrie (Dan) Elzinga; and by several great-nephews & nieces. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Deb VanKoevering; nephew, Dave Erhardt; and by his father-in-law & mother-in-law, Ken & Arlene Staley. According to his wishes cremation has taken place, and there will be a time of visiting with the family from 10-11 AM on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home where a Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 AM. A luncheon will be held at the Fremont Moose Lodge #1555, 15 W. Main Street, Fremont, MI. 49412 immediately following the service. Suggested Memorial: The Fremont Moose Lodge #1555 Building Fund.
