Genevieve Weeber Obituary

Genevieve Mae Weeber died at age 87 in Quarryville, PA on May 19, 2025 after an extended illness.

Born into a farming family in Remus, MI, Genevieve always had a love for gardening.  She grew vegetables for the family to eat but grew flowers for their beauty.

Genevieve, along with her brother and sisters, left home to attend Mt. Carmel High School and Kentucky Mountain Bible Institute in Vancleve, KY.  She then went on to complete three years of Bible College, followed by a resident nursing program at Sparrow Hospital in East Lansing, MI, and rounded out with a Bachelor’s of Science from Michigan State University. After graduating, she followed her calling to serve on the mission field.  She served as a nurse at the Kamakwie Wesleyan Hospital in Sierra Leone, West Africa.  While in Sierra Leone, she married her Michigan State beau, Lewis Weeber. Lewis had served with the Peace Corps in Nigeria.

Upon returning from the mission field, she worked at hospitals throughout West Michigan, but her life’s work was caring for her family.  When she wasn’t busy in the kitchen figuring out ways to hide vegetables in her meals so Phil would get his vitamins, she was gardening, quilting or sewing.  She was active in church ministries, leading the women’s missionary board and running both the church nursery and children’s church program at various times.  Always a missionary at heart, Genevieve’s desire was that people knew Jesus loved them.  When asked how she was doing, even at the height of her cancer, she would answer “blessed”. During her cancer treatment Genevieve crafted lap quilts for those in need. She desired to be used by the Lord during all her days.

Born on September 4, 1937 in Remus, MI, the daughter of Arthur and Marian Smith, she is survived by her children Stephen (Marcie) Weeber and Philip (Carter) Weeber, grandchildren Emma (Madison) Ryer, Alexander Weeber, Austin Weeber, Genna Weeber, and Lucy Weeber, and sister Eunice (William) Lockwood. She is preceded in death by her husband Lewis Weeber, brother Edward Smith, and sisters Ava Smith and Dorellen Smith-Belleau.
