Gerald Allen Lubbers, age 88, of Reeman (Fremont) died at home after a short bout with cancer on January 1, 2026.
Gerald was born on September 24, 1937, to Arnold and Pearl (Veenstra) Lubbers in Reeman, Michigan. He married Barbara Breuker on June 7, 1965, in Fremont. Together they raised three daughters: Suzanne (Roger) Frens, Vicki Lubbers, and Marilyn Jackson. He was the proud grandfather of four grandsons, Mitch (Madison) Rowe, Justin Frederick, and Hunter and Jayden Frens, and four great-grandchildren, Cooper, Elliana, Oliver, and Ensley. He also had three bonus grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Frens, Andrea (Tony) Caruso, and Shannan (Bill) Beattie and several great-grandchildren. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Pearl, his brothers, Donald and Ted, and his sister, RuthAnn.
Gerald grew up on the family farm and continued to farm part-time throughout most of his life. He drove truck for Ply-Curves and Radio Transfer. He was an avid Minneapolis Moline tractor collector, loved tractor shows, and was a history buff who enjoyed sharing the things he learned. He and Barb enjoyed traveling to many different spots around the United States. He was always up for a road trip somewhere. As he said, his favorite thing to do was cause some mischief with his grandsons.
The family would like to thank Harbor Hospice for their wonderful care of Gerald. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Harbor Hospice or Newaygo County Commission on Aging. A private funeral service will be held on January 6, 2026. Burial will be at Reeman Cemetery in the Spring.
