Gerald (Jerry) Marvin Gibbie went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 7, 2020 at The Newaygo County Compassion Home, following a lingering illness. He was born to Ernie and Amanda Gibbie on Feb. 17, 1938 in Gowen, Mich. He moved to Reeman as a young teenager and later met and married Eldora Bunce on Oct. 27, 1956 .. They were happily married for 63 years and were blessed with four children: Jeff (Kathi) Gibbie, Calvin (Angie) Gibbie, both of Fremont, Chris Gibbie of Georgia, and Rachel (Scott) Roth of Florida. Their grandchildren include, Chad (Ellen) Gibbie, Dean (Jessica) Gibbie, Tara (Ethan) Bennett, Brook (Mark) Krause, Dan Gibbie, Joe (Caitlin) Gibbie, Jared Roth, Amanda (Charlie) Briggs, Anna (Elisha) Moseley, and Jayden Roth. step grandchildren, Brent (Nicole) Sherman, Ashley (Josh) Alderink, Trevor (Jessica) Sherman and Kayla (Tim) Elmer, and 13 great grandchildren. Other survivors include his sisters, Melodie (Paul) Overbeek, of Zeeland, and Lorelei (Tal) Taylor, of Ridgeway, Canada. Sisters in law, Gladys Lauritzen of Fremont, and Mary Gibbie of Holland. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers, Bern, Don, Jim, and Bob. He was a grocer and owned Jerry's BuyRite of Hesperia for many years and then later, they operated their own cleaning business. He graduated from Spurgeon Baptist Bible College, with a pastoral degree, as an older adult and was very active in all the churches they attended, lastly being Inspire Church of Fremont. He had faithfully served as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and Bible Study Leader.
His passion in life was snowmobiling and working on them. Until his health declined, he had spent many years enjoying Michigan winters and playing in the beautiful snow with his family and friends. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at Inspire (Wesleyan) Church at 1:00 P.M. Friday, July 10, 2020. Due to Covid 19 restrictions, there will be no visitation, but up to 200 are welcome at the service, with social distancing in place. Masks are recommended, but not required. Officiants will be Pastors Mark Shaw (nephew), Keith Schubert, and Greg Johnson. Livestream is available through the Inspire Church Facebook page (facebook.com/liveinspired.church). A recording of the service will be available on the funeral home website at a later date. Interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery.
