Geraldine "Jean" (Pekel) VanHemert

Mrs. Geraldine “Jean” VanHemert, age 96 of Fremont, went Home to be with her Lord & Savior and to meet up with many family & friends on Friday afternoon, January 8, 2021.  She was born on September 9, 1924 in Fremont, Michigan to Ben & Jennie (Stroven) Pekel.  Jean was a farmer’s wife, and she had been a member of First Reformed Church in Fremont.  She enjoyed bowling, loved flowers, and was a self taught piano player.  Jean always had the coffee pot on, and loved to spend time with family & friends.  On December 24, 1945 she married her grade school sweetheart, John VanHemert, and he preceded her in death on December 17, 2007.  Jean was also preceded in death by her sisters, Gladys Sneller & Gertrude Troop; and by her brothers, Harry, Howard, & Harold Pekel.  She is survived by 4 daughters:  Marcia “Marty” (Rick) Luchies, Loie Kraley, Sue (Ted) Splitstone, Mary Jo (Chuck) Moon.  She was also the best loving grandma, great grandma, & great-great grandma to many.  Jean is also survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara VanHemert & Carolyn Drake; and by many nieces & nephews.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a Private Family Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home with Bill Johnson officiating.  You can watch a livestream of the service on the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home facebook page, and a recording of the service will be available to watch after the service on the funeral home website.  Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.  Suggested Memorial:  TrueNorth Community Services.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
