Gilbert Harry Pearson of Holton, Michigan passed away on Friday morning, August 13 after a short battle with lung cancer. He was born on August 8, 1938 to Harold (Bud) and Esther (Densmore) Pearson in Fremont, Michigan. He attended Fremont High School and later graduated from Barber College. He worked many years as a barber in Fremont at Chuck’s Barber Shop. Later he worked for the City of Fremont in the Department of Public Works, retiring after 20 plus years. He was a member of Fremont United Methodist Church where he sang for many years in the choir and was active with many mission projects including traveling to Costa Rica to help build a school. Gilbert will be remembered for his sense of humor and his love for playing practical jokes. He was dedicated to his family and truly enjoyed the many friendships he made over the years. He especially enjoyed identifying birds and recognizing what songs they sang. He also enjoyed gardening, cribbage and other card games, fly fishing for blue gills off his dock, camping, and continuing his barbering after retirement.
He is survived by his wife Sharon of 63 years; daughter, Debby (John) Reinhold and their children; Aimie, Alex (Kayleigh Roessler), and Aaron; son Mitch; daughter -in-law Debbie Pearson and her children, Monica and Tanya, brother Don (Shirley) Pearson of Walkerville; sister-in-laws; Barb Pearson of Kingsley; Yvonne Hoenshell of Greenville; Laurel (Kevin) Malone of Dearborn; and Coral Dutcher of Hesperia; and great-grandchildren, Monroe Pearson-Balavitch and Jaydn Pearson and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by his son John Pearson; his brothers, Harold and Earl Pearson; his sister-in-law Alva Pearson; and his brother-in-law Elton Hoenshell.
A memorial service is being held at 4 p.m. on Monday, August 23, 2021 at Fremont United Methodist Church, 351 East Butterfield in Fremont, with Pastor Eldon Eldred officiating. There will be a time of visiting with the family beforehand at the church from 3 to 4 p.m. Internment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont.
