Mr. Gilbert Junior Vanover, age 87 of Fremont, passed away on Friday afternoon, October 9, 2020 at the Newaygo County Compassion Home in White Cloud. He was born on April 27, 1933 in Eubank, Kentucky to Rosco & Elsie (Pumphrey) VanOver. Gil was a US Navy Seabee. He had been a union carpenter, and he had owned & operated Gil’s Produce. He enjoyed hunting & trapping. On December 2, 1967 Gil married Jeanie Denmen and she survives him along with 4 children: Gilbert J. “Sonny” (Cheryl) VanOver, Bonnie (Jim) Fisher, Linda (Richard) Hardenburgh, Rickey (Andrea) VanOver; 20 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren, & 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Patty VanOver & Marcia VanOver; and by his brother-in-law, Eddie Denmen. Gil was preceded in death by his son, Robert “Bob” VanOver; and by several brothers & sisters. A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 at Clark Cemetery with his son, Gilbert J. VanOver officiating. Please bring your own lawn chair and umbrella. You are asked to social distance, and masks are optional. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Newaygo County Compassion Home.
