Gordon John Luchies, 87, of Fremont, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids.
Gord was born to John and Johanna (Lankhorst) Luchies on April 17, 1935, in Fremont. On February 28, 1956, he married Charlene Evelyn Wade. He was a life-long member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont. Gord was a carpenter/contractor for much of his life, as were his father and grandfather before him. In his younger days, Gord spent time working at Thayer’s greenhouse, as a milkman, and as a gas station operator. Later in life he was a truck driver, retail business owner and a realtor.
Gord had many hobbies over the years. He was a private pilot, owned a small plane for many years and, up until his passing, loved hanging out with his buddies at the White Cloud Municipal Airport Good Old Boys Coffee Club. Gord and Char were charter members of the Sno-Packers Snowmobile Club and were also members of a square-dancing club for a number of years. Gord also enjoyed camping and spent many summer weekends at campgrounds all over Michigan, and a few Christmases camped near Orlando, Florida for family vacations at Disney World. He and Char also enjoyed wintering in Florida for about 15 years, until it became too difficult due to health issues and Covid-19 travel restrictions.
Gord is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Charlene; his children, Gayle (Bruce) Johnson of Lexington, Kentucky; Lisa (Brian) Maynard of Fremont, and John (Kelly) Luchies of Newaygo; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his sister Carolyn (Roger) Frens, sisters-in-law Ruth Walsworth and Doris Hagood, and many nieces and nephews.
Gord was preceded in death by his parents, John and Johanna Luchies; sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and William (Bud) Ensing; sister Alvedor Luchies; brother and sister-in-law Alvin (Al) and Norma Luchies; brother Harvey Luchies and brother-in-law Keith Walsworth Sr.
