Harold Kolk Obituary

Harold Jay Kolk, 95, of Fremont, Michigan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday morning, May 24, 2020. 

Harold was born on October 16, 1924 in St. Louis, Michigan to Albert and Mayme (Meeuwenberg) Kolk, and lived the majority of his life in Newaygo and Fremont, Michigan after graduating from Newaygo High School.    

After high school Harold served in the U.S. Army in Japan during World War II.  After the service Harold helped his father raise fox and later started a gravel company, K-V Gravel Company, and a redi-mix company, Newaygo County Transit Mix. 

Harold was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Fremont for the majority of his life and served on the church council for many years, as well as on the Fremont Christian School Board. 

He was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Aletta (Wieringa) Kolk; son Mark Kolk; and sister, Esther Vandenberg.  He is survived by his children:  Gerald (Maryellen) Kolk, Randall Kolk (Michael Cresa); and daughter-in-law, Christie Kolk.  Harold will also be greatly missed by his surviving wife Winifred (Rottman Deur) Kolk of 32 years and her children:  Vonda (Tom) Brasser, Dave (Sharon) Deur, and Tom (Robin) Deur, in addition to 16 grandchildren & 14 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his sister, Dottie Rosenberg; by his brother Martin Kolk; and by several nieces & nephews.  Harold will be remembered as a gentle, loving, generous, and kind man.

Due to current restrictions related to COVID-19 concerning social distancing, a private burial and committal service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday morning, May 27, 2020 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont with Pastor Doug MacLeod officiating.  Military Honors will be provided by the Michigan Army National Guard.  The service can be watched live-stream on the Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home facebook page.  A video of the service will also be available to watch at www.kroeze-wolffis.com, where you can sign the online guest book.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Fremont Area Community Foundation for either the Second Christian Reformed Church Endowment Fund, or for the Fremont Christian School Endowment Fund.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
