Harriet Ann Phipps, 94, of Fremont, Michigan, was called home to the Lord on Monday evening, May 5, 2025. She was born on March 18, 1931, in Blue Island, IL as one of 10 children to Roy and Helen Scheidel.
Harriet grew up an avid roller skater and met her future husband, Roscoe Phipps, at the roller rink in 1952, while he was stationed with the Army at Naval Station Great Lakes. The two went on to raise 8 children in Sauk Village, IL before moving to Fremont, MI in 1986. They went on to enjoy 70 years of marriage together before Roscoe’s passing in 2023. Harriet was strong in her Catholic faith and is a member of All Saints Catholic Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roscoe; her son Jeffery; her brothers, Roy and Lee; and her sisters: Helen, Margaret, Frances, Marie and Beatrice.
She is survived by her brother Roman and sister Grace; her caregiver and daughter Louella Lorenz, caregiver and son-in law Clyde Lorenz; sons: Roscoe Phipps, Joseph (Lori) Phipps, Ronald Phipps, John (Betty) Phipps, Mike (Kathy) Phipps; and daughter Hariette (Steve) Loehmer; a score of Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, and a few Great-Great Grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 9, 2025 at All Saints Catholic Church, 500 Iroquois Drive, Fremont, MI 49412 with Fr. Len Sudlik as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Fremont. Visitation will also be at the church from 10-11 AM on Friday. Suggested Memorial: The Newaygo County Compassion Home.
