Henry “Hank” Terpstra, age 97 of Fremont, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, December 14, 2022. He was born on March 13, 1925 in McBain, Michigan to John and Grace (Sturwold) Terpstra. Hank served his country during World War II as a medic with the US Army in Italy and North Africa. He was a Purple Heart recipient and was awarded a Bronze Star Medal. He was retired from Centel Telephone Company in Des Plaines, Illinois, and he was a member of First Christian Reformed Church in Fremont. Hank loved to volunteer wherever he was needed, and helping others was always a priority. On May 2, 1947, he married Marie Havenga, and she preceded him in death on January 18, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his brothers & their spouses: David (Grace) Terpstra, John (Evelyn) Terpstra; sister & her husband, Clara (Richard) Skinner; sister, Alice Cardea; sister-in-law, Chris Terpstra; and brother-in-law, Bill Hall. Hank is survived by 5 children: Wayne & Miriam Terpstra, Charles & Sandy Terpstra, Bruce & DeDe Terpstra, Ann & Steve Yonker, Alan & Jackie Terpstra; 15 grandchildren & 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Edward Terpstra, James (Norma) Terpstra, George (Sharon) Terpstra; sister, Theresa Hall; and by his brother-in-law, Tony Cardea. A private family graveside service with full military honors will be held at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 with Jeff Wellman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to The Fremont Christian School Endowment Fund at the Fremont Area Community Foundation, or to Fountain View Retirement Village of Fremont.
