Herbert "Herb" Del Benson

Herbert “Herb” Del Benson, aged 84, passed away Monday, December 1st, 2025 following a brief illness. He was born on September 2nd, 1941, in Muskegon, Michigan to Del and Luella Benson.

He was raised in North Muskegon and attended North Muskegon High School. There, he met his wife, Kathy, and the two married on November 14, 1959. They welcomed their son, Jeffrey, in 1966, and moved to Fremont, Michigan in 1968. Herb worked at Campbell, Wyant and Cannon in  Muskegon for over 40 years.

An avid outdoorsman, Herb loved hunting, fishing, and exploring Michigan’s forest trails on his ATV, but his favorite place to be was on the water – whether he was sailing Lake Michigan on his boat "Affinity" which was docked at Armstrong Marina in Whitehall every summer, fishing off a bass boat with his son on any and all inland lakes, or navigating a pontoon down a canal in Florida. In his later years Herb could be found most mornings sitting with a cup of coffee, watching his birds at the feeder. He had a love for country music, attending jams with a group of friends on a regular basis.

Herb was a founding member of Country Bible Church in Fremont, MI and attended regularly for many years. He also carried on his father’s love of old engines, restoring and exhibiting them at the Scottville Old Engine Show each year. He and Kathy traveled to Florida every winter for several years, staying at Lake Bryant Campground in Ocklawaha, FL.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kathleen Benson, his son Jeff (Kim) Benson, his granddaughter Elizabeth (Josiah) Campbell, his brother Donald (Cheryl) Benson, his sister-in-law Janice Benson, and several in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Luella and Del Benson, his brother David Benson, and his nephew Ryan Benson.

Visitation will be held at Country Bible Church in Fremont, Michigan from 10-11 AM on Saturday, December 13, 2025, with a Memorial Service beginning at 11:00 AM, followed by a luncheon at the church.  Flowers may be sent to Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions can be given to Country Bible Church.  You can sign the online guest book at www.kroeze-wolffis.com.  Arrangements are by Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home, Inc. of Fremont.
