James Bruce Hiler, age 87 of Fremont, passed away on Saturday evening, January 3, 2026 at his home. He was born on March 22, 1938 in Luzerne, Michigan to Harry & Marguerite (Holly) Hiler. Jim had worked at Gerber Products Company, Teledyne Continental Motors, he drove truck for Meijer, and he worked at Benteler Automotive Manufacturing in Grand Rapids. He owned and operated Whispering Pines Tree Nursery in Fremont, and he had worked for the Newaygo County Conservation Department. Jim enjoyed playing the guitar & singing, drawing, gardening, and he loved horses. On October 25, 1958 he married Beverly Jean Lorenz and she survives him along with 4 children: Sherrie (Tony) Burrell, Terry Hiler, Julie (Hiler) Atherton, James Hiler, Jr.; 7 grandchildren & 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brothers, John, Harry, Jr., Ray & Howard, and by his sisters Barbara & Carol. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place, and there will be a time of visiting with the family at Kroeze-Wolffis Funeral Home from 11:30-12:30 PM on Thursday, January 15, 2026, followed by a Memorial Service at 12:30 PM with Pastor Nate Kooistra officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow the service at the Hesperia American Legion Post #411 from 2-4 PM on Thursday.
