James “Jim” Carlton Reed, age 79 of Newaygo, passed away on Wednesday evening, May 19, 2021 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility in Fremont following a courageous and lengthy battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born on March 2, 1942 in Muskegon, Michigan to John & Bernice (Wood) Reed. Jim graduated from Reeths-Puffer High School in 1960. Jim was a Michigan State Police Trooper for 25 years. He retired from the Newaygo Post in 1993. He also served at Blissfield, Warren and Mackinac Island. Jim loved Jeeps and driving the trails with his friends. He loved Tiger's baseball as well as Whitecap's baseball. On May 1, 2004 he married Lisa Grunow and she survives him along with his 2 sons: Vincent Reed of Newaygo, Michigan, Todd (Lisa) Reed of Sturgis, Michigan; 2 step-children, Anna & Craig; 7 grandchildren: Alex James (AJ), Zachary, Wyatt, Jake, Jayla, Jude, & Kenna; 3 great grandchildren: Cadence, Oliver, and Everly, and by 1 brother, Clinton Reed. Several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by an amazing mother-in-law, Nancy Hazen. Jim was preceded in death by his grandson, Ronan Reed; by his parents; John and Bernice, and by his sisters, Marilyn Reed Black & Rose Reed Meier. A Private Graveside Service was held at Newaygo Cemetery with Pastor James Fader officiating.
