Janet L. Dunbar, 68 of Holton, passed away peacefully at home on April 13, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
Janet was born on June 18, 1957 to Bert and Alice Drent. She graduated from Fremont High School and later married the love of her life, Joseph Dunbar, on June 2, 1979, with whom she shared 47 wonderful years.
Janet had a deep love for her family and cherished every moment spent with them. She enjoyed camping, cooking, reading, and crocheting. For many years, she and her family made lasting memories at their camp at Diamond Lake Campground.
She was a dedicated member of the Holton American Legion Post for 50 years, as well as the Don Rea Post. Janet was well known for her generous spirit and passion for volunteering, especially cooking and organizing dinners for her community.
Janet is survived by her beloved husband, Joseph Dunbar, Sr.; her children, Melissa and Todd Wentworth of Whitehall, and Joe and Rebecca Dunbar, Jr. of Holton; and her many grandchildren: Jozzlynn and Seth of Muskegon, Carter and Kennedy of Fremont, Preston of Indiana, Ashlynn and Nick of Whitehall, Kadince and Jayden of Holton, Landin and Haley of Holton, and Kegan of Holton. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Rozario (Rio) and Savayez (EZ); her sister, Sheila Parkton of Kansas; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family, and special friends, including Dan and Roxanne Russell and Wes and Jill Russell, and her bonus grandchildren.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Bert and Alice Drent; her in-laws, Earl and Rosie Dunbar; her brother, Richard Drent; and her sister, Charlotte Cole.
A celebration of Janet’s life will be held from 2-5 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at VFW Post #7729, 6285 E. Apple Avenue, Muskegon, Michigan 49442.
