Jean Morse Obituary

Jean Somers Morse, 83, of Fremont, Michigan, passed away peacefully, September 3, 2022, in Columbus, Indiana.

Born October 2, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Robert and Jeanette Somers, Jean grew up in Arlington, Virginia.  She graduated from Michigan State University and was a member of the ZTA sorority.  Jean later earned her Master’s Degree from Western Michigan University.  Jean married James Clarence Morse on December 27, 1960.  In 1965 the Morse family moved to Fremont, where they made lifelong friends and were members of the First Congregational Church.  Jean taught elementary special education for 35 years, the majority of the time at Newaygo Public Schools.  After her husband’s passing, she moved to Indiana with her daughter and son-in-law.  With their good care, she was able to enjoy many good months before needing to be in assisted living.  Jean loved crafting, especially painting, as well as boating, playing bridge and reading. Even with declining health, her love of reading continued until the end of her days.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim (2/25/2019) and son-in-law Andy Brinkman.  Jean is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Mike and Karen Morse, Liz Morse, Will and Kate Morse, Cooper, Cora;  Patty and Norman Knorr, Norm (Andy) and Kayla Knorr, Delaney Reynhout, Wyatt Reynhout;  Missy and Adam Zimmerman, Eden, Nora; Keleigh and Andrew Schmucker, Ellinor, Astrid, Rieker; Debby and Jeff Converse, Jake Brinkman, Josh Brinkman.   Jean is also survived by her sister Carolyn (Thom) McPherson and beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 8 at the First Congregational Church of Fremont, 714 Hillcrest Avenue, Fremont, Michigan.  Visitation with the family will be at 10:00, with the service at 11:00, officiated by Rev. Luke Schmalz.  A luncheon will be held after the service. A private family ceremony will be held to inter the ashes of Jean and Jim in the Rose Garden.
