Ms. Jean Elaine Riemersma, affectionately known as “Old Gram” or “Oma” age 94 of Fremont, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2025 at the Newaygo Medical Care Facility. She was born on December 12, 1931 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Neil and Viola Proos. Jean enjoyed cross stitch, knitting, puzzles, Yahtzee, and spending time by the campfire. She worked as a secretary at Proos Manufacturing, where she later became a part owner.
Jean is survived by her two daughters: Pamela (James) Deemter, and Paula Ypma; her grandchildren: Tracey (Robert) Taylor, Tawnie (Mike) Kane, Kimberley Dekkers, Jodi (Chris) Britton, Nikki (Art) Sokolowski, Jennifer (Ken) Dreyer, Trevor Ypma and Jared Ypma. Jean’s legacy extended to great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren all of whom loved and enjoyed spending time with Oma. Jean was preceded in death by her mom and dad. She was the last of her generation, preceded in death by her siblings: Kenneth Proos, Russell Proos, John “Jack” Proos, and Bertha Paul.
Cremation has taken place, and a Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Grace Bible Church in Newaygo. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
